Türkiye Entry Requirements for US, Canadian and British Travellers

Reviewed 5 November 2026

The short answer

As checked on 5 November 2026, Türkiye’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs lists ordinary US and Canadian passports as visa-exempt for up to 90 days in any 180-day period, with the same tourist allowance for ordinary UK passports. Other British nationality and passport categories differ. Check the official guidance for your passport’s validity, purpose and previous stays; a visa exemption is not a guarantee of admission.

This comparison brings together official guidance for ordinary US and Canadian passports and full British citizen passports used for tourist visits. Start with the document each person will present, rather than the country of residence or the flight’s departure point.

The table identifies the relevant authorities. The dated notes below then distinguish the visa allowance from passport validity and other document requirements.

Start with the passport you will present

Match the nationality and document category

Ordinary, official, diplomatic and other travel documents can have different conditions. The Turkish MFA also distinguishes British nationality categories. Read the entry that applies to the document being used.

Work, study, residence and other purposes require their own assessment. The tourist comparison cannot establish the requirements for those activities.

Account for validity and previous stays

A visa exemption is one part of entry. Passport expiry, available pages, the permitted duration and previous visits also matter. When checking a rolling stay allowance, include earlier stays within the relevant period.

Resolve uncertainties before reaching the airport, where the airline may check documents before boarding. A Turkish diplomatic mission is the appropriate contact when the official guidance does not clearly cover an individual case.

Use the passport-specific sources

US travellers should read the State Department’s country information alongside the Turkish rules. Canadians should use the Government of Canada’s entry-and-exit guidance. British visitors should use GOV.UK’s entry page and note its stated passport audience.

These sources also address circumstances such as children, dual nationality and non-standard documents. Check every family member’s document separately. Share necessary personal details directly with the authority or provider handling the enquiry, not with TürkiyeTour.

Read regional advice separately

Permission to enter a country and official advice about travelling within it are different matters. Read the current advisory for the proposed provinces and roads and establish the implications for insurance. An admissible tourist document does not resolve those route decisions.

Recheck at booking and before departure

The dates record the source checks actually performed. Requirements may change, so return to the official links when booking and again before travel. This guide provides a comparison, not an individual eligibility decision or a visa-application service.

Once the document questions are settled, the first-visit guide brings the route, season and accommodation decisions together.

Our judgment

Check eligibility before committing to non-refundable arrangements, then recheck near departure. If the official pages do not clearly cover your passport or purpose, ask a Turkish diplomatic mission rather than guessing from this comparison.
