How we check what we publish.
Useful travel writing makes its sources, judgment and limits clear. These are the standards behind our pages.
Sources
Historical and cultural claims are checked against UNESCO, government bodies, museums and published scholarship wherever possible. We keep a record of the sources behind every page and the date they were checked. When a source was unavailable or a fact could not be confirmed, we either leave the claim out or say that it is uncertain.
Practical information changes
Opening hours, ticket rules, flights, ferries, entry requirements and costs change without warning. Our guides date these facts and link to an official source where one exists. They are a starting point for your planning and not a guarantee. We never turn a temporary rule into a permanent promise.
What we will not do
- Invent an author, guide, interview, quotation or testimonial.
- Describe a personal travel experience that no real contributor has had.
- Present a hotel or restaurant partnership without verified terms and clear disclosure.
- Publish prices, availability or special-access promises. Those belong to the operator who would actually have to honour them.
- Pass off a generated picture or an imprecise caption as a photograph of a real place.
How pages are made
Our pages are researched and drafted with the help of AI tools, working from the sources recorded for each page. Publication requires a named human editor, fact checker and publisher approval, recorded separately from source verification. Only eligible, approved content appears in the production edition and its search index.
Photographs
Each photograph records its subject, location, photographer, source and licence. Photographs are credited where they appear and on the image credits page.
Updates and corrections
Pages show the date of their last substantive review, which changes only when the content has actually been re-checked. Entry and safety information is assigned a monthly review; cultural writing a twice-yearly review. Automated checks flag due items and withhold expired high-risk content from production builds.
